If you are in social housing, like Housing New Zealand (HNZ) or council housing, you have the same rights as any other tenant. Your landlord has to make sure your place is kept in a reasonable state of repair, and is safe and healthy.

If you are a HNZ tenant and you need repairs done, it’s best to call them directly. If it's urgent (e.g. no water or no power), HNZ will try and get it fixed within four hours. Otherwise they will send someone within 10 working days to have a look and decide what needs to be done and when.
