If you have a complaint about discrimination, you can contact the Human Rights Commission (HRC). You’ll need to explain what’s happened and why you think it’s discrimination.
You can choose make a complaint to the Tenancy Tribunal instead. But you can’t make a complaint to both the HRC and the Tenancy Tribunal. Once you’ve made your choice you can’t change.
If you choose to make your complain through the HRC, HRC will work with you to try and resolve the issue through informal methods, like phoning the other party or mediation. The complaints process is free and confidential. You do not need to have a lawyer, but you can if you wish.
If the informal complaints process doesn’t work,  you can take your complaint to the Human Rights Review Tribunal (HRRT). This is an independent judicial body (court) and completely separate from the HRC.
