My landlord won't repair the dishwasher. What should I do?

By law the landlord is responsible for providing and maintaining your rental property in a reasonable state of repair and making sure it’s safe and healthy.
This includes keeping the plumbing, electrical wiring and anything to do with the structure of the house safe and working properly. If your tenancy agreement lists an oven, dryer, fridge etc. as a chattel, the landlord also has to keep them in good repair.
If they don’t do these repairs they are in breach of the lease. Let your landlord know immediately what needs to be fixed - in the case of the above chattels and the water cylinder they need to be fixed urgently. Keep a record of all your telephone calls, messages and emails to the landlord. If it isn’t repaired within 3 days, you can issue the landlord with a ‘14-day notice to remedy’.
